GEAUGA COUNTY, OH - One person was rescued Sunday afternoon after their vehicle drove off a boat ramp into the water at Lake LaDue in Geauga County.

Officials on scene tell Fox 8 that the person was in the vehicle when the driver apparently suffered a medical emergency.  A 15-year-old boy saw the car go into the water while fishing with his cousin and jumped in to help. Our crews tell us that he took a knife into the water with him and used it to break a window in order to free the person inside the car.

"I ran to the shore and then I saw the car and I said 'call 911,'” said 15-year-old Samuel Sell."I said 'give me your knife' because I didn't know if I was going to have to break a window and help him out."

"And then I was like I need to do this, because I like to think of things as if this happened to me, how I would want someone to react to help me."

There were no injuries other than the original medical emergency that caused the accident in the first place.

"It's very rare we have somebody in the right place at the right time, usually people don't want to get involved nowadays and we're very proud that he got involved and helped," said Mike Cardaman, Asst. Fire Chief at the Auburn Township Fire Department.

"We say in the fire service, risk a little, save a little; risk a lot, save a lot."
