MINNEAPOLIS — Police say autopsy results confirm that a Minnesota man killed his wife and three children before taking his own life in their suburban Minneapolis home.

The South Lake Minnetonka Police Department’s interim chief, Mike Siitari, tells The Associated Press he can now confirm the deaths were a murder-suicide.

He says 45-year-old Brian Short killed his wife, Karen, and their three teenagers sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

The Hennepin County medical examiner ruled Saturday that all five died from shotgun wounds to the head. It said only Brian Short’s wound was self-inflicted.

Officers found the dead family members Thursday while doing a welfare check at their Greenwood home because they hadn’t been heard from in days. The children had not been to school since classes resumed Tuesday.
