Plugged in: Why does college cost so much?

According to US News and World Report, the top U.S. colleges in the latest rankings cost nearly $50,000 a year.

Of those, only 2 Ohio colleges cracked the top 60. Case Western Reserve ranks at 37, while Ohio State comes in at 52.

Costs like that are, for many families, just not affordable. And yet, more and more, students are being encouraged to get that degree. What needs to change about these costs? Is there a way to make it better for our children?
