Akron man pleads guilty to raping young girl

AKRON, Ohio- An Akron man was sentenced on Wednesday to raping a girl and attacking a Summit County Sheriff’s Deputy.

James Fudge, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of rape for a victim under the age of 13 and two counts of assault on a police officer.

According to the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, three children were left in Fudge’s care for 15 to 20 minutes on May 30, 2014. When the victim’s mother returned, her daughter begged her not to leave again. Investigators later learned Fudge raped the girl.

While awaiting trial, Fudge assaulted a deputy at the Summit County Jail, prosecutors said.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Christine Croce sentenced Fudge to life in prison with eligibility of parole after 10 years.
