PERKINS TOWNSHIP – Police arrested a man on Friday afternoon after a gas station clerk called to complain that the man was dancing around the store and groping himself.

According to the report, Perkins Tonwship police were called to the Friendship Gas Station on Hayes Avenue and Perkins Avenue for the disturbance.

When the first officer arrived, he noticed Stephen Barnhart dancing around the store, talking to himself and sticking his hands down his pants.

While patting down Barnhart, the officer found a syringe in his pocket and placed him under arrest while he called for backup.

Police asked Barnhart when the last time he had used heroin was and he told them about 30 minutes prior.

While seated in the police car, Barnhart was lethargic so police called EMS. Barnhart was transported to a local hospital to be checked out before being taken to the Erie County Jail.

Once he arrived at the jail, he told officers his hands were only down his pants because he was looking for his money. He then apologized for his actions.

Barnhart was charged with possession of heroin, public indecency, possession of drug instruments and disorderly conduct.

As of Saturday, Barnhart remained in the Erie County jail on a $10,500 bond.
