ASHTABULA – Children in the 5th Ward, an area which recently was the scene where a young mother of four was found murdered, got a chance to meet their safety forces up close during a block watch party.

City officers, along with the canine unit, firefighters, and agents with the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation were on hand to finger print children.

Councilman Kris Hamrick said he wanted to give children a chance to meet safety forces in a friendly and safe environment.

The quiet community was stunned last month when the body of Mandy Gottschalk was found in a shallow grave near her home. Two men have been arrested in connection with her murder.
