AKRON, OH - What's the best way to cool down on a hot August Sunday?

If you're in Akron, how about an 800 foot long water slide?

That's what's drew thousands of people to downtown Akron today as Slide the City has set up a super-sized vinyl slide on University Avenue all the way to Lock 3 Park.

Organizers tell Fox 8 that the slide is made up of 8 vinyl sections. Each section is 100 feet long and weighs about 150 pounds. Builders first spray the slide route with foam, lay the sections down and then inflate the slide. A fire hydrant is used to fill the slide and the water is recycled from the bottom of the slide back to the top.

2,700 people signed up in advance to slide their way through the city. Each of them has an assigned time to enjoy the rush of the water.....and a unique view of downtown Akron.
