Man wanted after kidnapping 2-year-old at gunpoint, Akron police say

AKRON, Ohio- A Mississippi man is wanted on several charges after police say he kidnapped a 2-year-old boy from an Akron home.

A woman was babysitting her friend’s 2-year-old son on Rita Dove Lane Sunday morning when Hashim Latfie Ali Spaulding kicked in the front door, Akron police said. Spaulding, who is the boy’s father, threatened the babysitter and a teen girl.

He took his son and the victims’ cell phone before fleeing. A couple hours later, Spaulding dropped the child off at a relative’s house. The boy was unharmed.

Spaulding, 23, is wanted for kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and aggravated menacing. His last known address is Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and he is considered armed and dangerous.
