The fire happened just before 11 p.m. Saturday at a mobile home on 12th Street Northwest in Canton. According to the Canton Fire Department, firefighters struggled to get into the home because it was filled with debris.

Once the fire was extinguished, crews found 24 dead cats.

The fire department said the mobile home was declared uninhabitable and the fire caused about $7,000 in damage.

A second fire in Canton took the lives of a litter of kittens.

The Stark County Animal Protective League said they believed only the mother cat survived. But on Monday, one of the kittens was turned into the APL and the family was reunited after a passerby heard the 9-day-oldĀ  kitten crying in the rubble of the fire.
