KANSAS– A couple, who has been the focus of a search by authorities for over a month, was arrested in Kansas on Thursday.

Michael Evans, 30, described as a “violent fugitive” was wanted by the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on aggravated robbery and felonious assault charges.

His wife, Kristy Evans, 34, was also taken into custody on an outstanding warrant out of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office for obstructing justice. Kristy’s seven-year-old daughter was found safe.

In early June, authorities say Michael Evans was in the Miami, Florida area and was the primary suspect in a homicide that happened at the Sunshine Inn Motel in Miami. Joseph Everett Moniz, 46, was found dead in a pool of blood inside a room at the motel rented by the Evans family.

The U.S. Marshals Service said authorities found a vehicle in a parking lot near the Kansas motel. It’s believed to be the same vehicle that Moniz was driving before his murder.

Michael Evans and Kristy Evans were taken to the Ellis County Jail in Kansas to await extradition to Ohio. Kristy’s daughter was in good health and is in the custody of Child Protective Services in Kansas until a relative in Ohio can be found to care for her.
