Wife charged for failing to care for impaired husband

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Springfield Township Police responded to a call of a deceased male on June 3. Officers found 64-year-old David Matwiju dead inside his home.

Officers said the living conditions were terrible and they were alarmed at Matwiju’s physical condition.  Matwiju appeared to be un-kept, emaciated and he was only wearing an adult diaper. At the time of the medical examination, he weighed 84 pounds.

The home was infested with cockroaches.

His wife, Dorothy Matwiju, 56, has been charged with failing to provide for a functionally impaired person, which is a felony.

Matwiju was a veteran who had suffered with health issues since 2011.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.
