BEACHWOOD - Good news for shoppers on the east side.

Big changes could be coming to the Beachwood Mall.

According to the city of Beachwood, the planning commission approved the Beachwood Place expansion project last night.

The city, along with parent company General Growth Properties, released renderings Friday afternoon that show the expansion includes adding 46,000 square feet to Beachwood Place.

The blue prints, which were presented to the planning commission Thursday night, show the expansion would go on the west side of the mall, which faces Richmond Road.

So, what would go there?

More retail and restaurants, according to the architects and consultants close the project.

"I think it's good.  It's always good to have improvements and the neighborhood is growing big.  We love just love Beachwood," said Blanche Beckerman.

"It's a good idea but there will be too much traffic.  That's not good.  I drive there every day," said Surinder Kaur, of Beachwood.

According to the city's building department, the plan now goes to City Council for a vote.
