‘A Beautiful Mind’ Mathematician John Nash Killed In Car Accident

NEW JERSEY – The man whose life story was the inspiration for the film “A Beautiful Mind” died in a car accident Saturday in New Jersey.

Famed mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr., 86, and his wife Alicia Nash, 82, were killed when a taxi in which they were riding went out of control and crashed into a highway guard rail, according to Sgt. Gregory Williams of the New Jersey State Police. The Huffington Post reports that neither of them were wearing seat belts and that they were both ejected from the taxi.

The taxi driver was hospitalized.

Nash was the subject of the Academy Award-winning film ‘A Beautiful Mind’, which told the story of his groundbreaking work in game theory, for which he won the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1994.

A Beautiful Mind’ starred Russell Crowe and chronicled Nash’s struggles with mental illness. He struggled with schizophrenia and after his recovery, became an advocate for improving mental health care. You can see a clip from the movie above.
