RITTMAN, Ohio-- On Memorial Day, it's important to remember the men and women in uniform who've given their lives for our nation's freedom. Thousands of them are laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

And, when they are laid to rest, they are not alone. A small group of extraordinary men-- the honor guard-- is with them and their families.

FOX 8 photojournalist Ali Ghanbari, a veteran himself, spent a year observing what happens in Rittman, working on the story you can see in the video above.

It's about families, the honor guard, and the sacred American respect that is paid every day on the hallowed ground.
