Hope after tragedy: Dog who lost owners in deadly tornado gets a new home

VAN, Texas- More than a week after a deadly tornado claimed the lives of her beloved family, new hope is given to a precious Great Pyrenees in Van, Texas.

The dog was found curled up with her owner, a retired police officer and his wife who was nearby. Both had died in the storm.

In all, at least five people are dead, dozens were hurt after the severe storms hit the Midwest and Plains states.

Doctors believe the pooch is 8 years old and is showing signs of shock. She also has some head trauma and is now deaf in one ear from a burst eardrum.

Cindy Nash, founder of Nicholas Pet Haven, told the Huffington Post, “She has the saddest face and is absolutely traumatized. You can’t help but cry when you look at her and just want to sit and hold and love her.”

The pooch was recently adopted and has a new name- Emma- to begin her future with her new family.
