CANTON, Ohio-- Canton police are investigating the savage assault and robbery of one of their own.

Auxiliary Canton police officer, 27-year-old Brian Dazey, was walking home from a shopping complex around midnight Saturday, which is less than a mile from his house, when a group of unknown attackers jumped him near 11th Street and Concord Ave SW.

The robbers got away with only a cell phone, some food items from the store, a SIM card and about 12 bucks.

Monday, Dazey remained hospitalized in stable condition at Mercy Medical Center with a number of injuries including those to his head and face.

It’s unknown if he was targeted because of his position with the police department.

One neighbor who asked not to be identified said, “I feel bad it happened to the guy. It’s just the reality we live in right now. I hope he makes a full recovery.”
