A 13-year-old girl, who thought she was about to be reunited with her mom, became a victim of what many on social media have called a hurtful prank.

According to BuzzFeed, Autumn Allen, a singer and songwriter from the United States, appeared on a TV show in Cambodia on Sunday called Penh Chet Ort (Like it or Not), for a special Mother’s Day episode.

The hosts told Autumn that she would be reunited with her mom, who, according to BuzzFeed, she hasn’t seen since she was six years old and left the U.S. with her dad.

But, instead, a cross-dressing comedian came out.

Fans on Autumn’s Facebook page and other social media were outraged, saying they couldn’t believe she wasn’t told beforehand that it was a joke.

Autumn posted that she didn’t think the show meant any harm by it. They issued a written apology and a public apology is expected soon.
