LAKEWOOD, Ohio –  St. Edward High School will introduce Tom Lombardo as its new head football coach Wednesday afternoon.

A former Eagles’ assistant coach, Lombardo has been the head coach at Highland High School in Medina for the past eight seasons.

Under Lombardo, the Hornets compiled a 61-29 record and made five OHSAA playoff appearances, including a berth in the 2013 state semifinals.

Massillon Washington spoke to Lombardo about its head coach position earlier this year, before he decided to remain at Highland.

Lombardo will replace Rick Finotti, who led St. Edward to the Division I State Championship in December, before leaving to become the director of football operations at the University of Michigan.

Lombardo takes over a program that has five consecutive playoff appearances.

The Eagles open the 2015 season on the road at Gilman High School in Baltimore, Maryland.
