NORDONIA - The former president of the Nordonia Hills Board of Education, Steven Bittel, was sentenced to 14 years in prison on Wednesday. He  plead guilty to several child pornography-related charges back in early March. He was facing a maximum sentence of 31 years.

Steven Bittel, 53, pleaded to four counts of pandering, 10 counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity, four counts of obstructing official business and one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor.

When Sagamore Hills police and the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force attempted to serve a search warrant at Bittel’s home on Sept. 5, 2014, he barricaded himself in a bedroom with a gun. He was arrested after a five-hour standoff.

According to Sherri Bevan Walsh, Summit County Prosecutor, Bittel’s IP address was connected to a file-sharing network involving child porn when he was arrested.
