CLEVELAND – A lesson learned at a school’s DARE program paid off immeasurably for a family in Cleveland.

Here is the message that Cleveland Police Community Policing Officer Anna Mercado received earlier this week on her Facebook page:

Officer Mercado teaches the DARE Program in Cleveland schools.  Her student used the information learned during the lessons to keep herself and her younger sister safe. Even the family dog helped out.

Officer Mercado, also known as “Officer Anna Banana”, was the Cleveland Police Foundation’s Officer of the Year. Her classes are certainly paying off in a big way for this student.
