MANSFIELD, Ohio- A woman has been arrested, accused of the murder of a baby girl.

According to Mansfield police, the Mansfield Police Major Crimes Unit arrested Brenda J. Pratt on an indictment by the Richland County Grand Jury for Murder.

Mansfield police said Akron Children’s Hospital called them on Jan. 21 and told them they were treating a 10-week-old baby for significant injuries.

The Major Crimes Unit and Children Services started an investigation and police said Pratt, 61, was identified as the person caring for the baby.

On Feb. 3, the baby, who was 12 weeks old, died. The investigation continued and the case was presented to the Richland County Grand Jury and Pratt was indicted.

In a press release, Lt. Rob Skropits with Mansfield police said,  “This is a very sad case in the face of the other child victims in recent weeks. People should be aware that it is easier to set a child down and walk away if the stress is too great.”
