One dies in senior housing facility fire

CLEVELAND -- One person died after a fire at a senior housing facility early Tuesday.

The fire broke out at the Alpha Phi Alpha Housing Estates located at 4100 East 187th Street around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

There were 10 units in the wing where the fire broke out. There was heavy smoke in that wing during the fire, and several residents were moved to another wing in the building.

Three residents were taken to area hospitals; one of the victims passed away. The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
