Oscar winner Julia Roberts loses her mom to cancer

Sad  news from Hollywood, right before Sunday’s Academy Awards: Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts has lost her mother. 80-year-old Betty Lou Bredemus passed away in Santa Monica, California Thursday after an extended battle with lung cancer.

According to US Weekly magazine, Bredemus’ death comes just one year after Roberts lost her half-sister, Nancy Motes, who died of an apparent overdose after leaving a suicide note. Betty Lou has been living with Roberts and her husband and three children since then.

Betty Lou Bredemus is also survived by her son, actor Eric, her daughter Lisa and her grandchildren, one of whom is actress Emma Roberts.

Bredemus’ first husband Walter Grady Roberts was Julia’s father. He died of cancer when Roberts was 10 years old.

Julia Roberts is currently working on a new movie,  The Secret In Their Eyes, in Los Angeles.
