CLEVELAND- RTA Paratransit drivers provide a vital link to services for the elderly and handicapped of Greater Cleveland, but a Euclid man said what he witnessed a driver doing outside an apartment complex on Friday afternoon, was disgusting.
Tyler Corbin told FOX 8, "Made like he was smoking a cigarette, then we noticed he was doing something strange with his zipper, with his pants. We were cracking little jokes, you know. The next thing we know we saw him kind of smoking and looking around kind of making little gestures. Come to find out he was urinating in a cup; so we videotaped it real quick."
The end of the video shows the driver then emptying the contents of his cup onto the ground in front of the bus. Corbin said the driver then helped a passenger into the vehicle. "Disgusting, just nasty. He could have went inside and used the bathroom like all the other drivers," he said.
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 268 President William Nix declined our offer to show him the video, but Nix did say the incident shows the need for more bathroom breaks and facilities for bus drivers. RTA issued a statement that reads, "We expect all employees to carry out their duties professionally. We are discussing the situation with the operator and will take appropriate action."
But Tyler Corbin said there's no excuse for what he considers public indecency and rude behavior. "Go use the facilities. They're nearby. That's what they're for. It's easy; it's no problem," he said.
