Nate Summerfield admits to killing estranged girlfriend, sentenced to prison
ASHLAND, Ohio-An Ashland man has admitted to killing his estranged girlfriend during their summer vacation back in July of 2012.
29-year-old Nate Summerfield entered a plea of guilty to second degree murder and kidnapping in a Dare County, North Carolina courtroom Monday morning.
He will spend the next 30-to-39 years in prison for stabbing and strangling 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer of Ashland.
The couple was vacationing on Hatteras Island with her young children.
Summerfield returned the children to family in Ashland before disappearing.
His brother turned Summerfield into authorities after the then 27-year-old confessed to Jackenheimer’s killing.
He told a Dare County judge, prior to sentencing, that he also confessed in a letter to his parents, but said he did not remember the crime because he was on the sleeping drug, Ambien, at the time.
