MOUNT VERNON, Ohio– The State Highway Patrol says a man lost control of a minivan on an icy central Ohio roadway and hit a stopped vehicle, killing a woman and seriously injuring the man and his two sons.

Troopers say the crash occurred Thursday night along state Route 3 in Knox County, roughly 40 miles northeast of Columbus. The van hit a sport utility vehicle that was stopped along the road in a private driveway because of snowy road conditions.

The patrol says the 36-year-old Mt. Vernon man driving the van was taken to a Columbus hospital in critical condition. His sons, ages 11 and 13, were taken to a different hospital with serious injuries.

The patrol says 34-year-old passenger Mellissa Martin died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV wasn’t hurt.
