A close call for Irish rocker Bono during a flight to Germany.

According to the New York Daily News, a six-seat Learjet 60 was carrying the U2 frontman and four friends when it lost its rear door.

The plane did land safely in Berlin.

“He was extremely lucky, the plane could have gone down,” a source close to Bono told the Irish Daily Mail. “About an hour into the journey they heard a big thud coming from the rear of the plane.”

The source said the entire door along with luggage belonging to the passengers fell out mid-air.

German investigators have launched a probe to figure out what happened.
