DALTON, Ohio- Dalton Elementary and Middle School in rural Wayne County is now in one building for students from pre-K to the eighth grade.
Rated excellent by the State of Ohio for the past eleven years, this school puts its students and academic achievements first. "The teachers are good here and they make sure you're focusing and they'll make sure you're on track," Fifth grader Caden Granger said.
There is a very hands-on approach to learning here. And, that's done with "steam" --- as in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
One example is the sixth grade boys making a quilt. "We're using geometric shapes which is math and arts because we're using the pattern."
Dalton is very excited about the arts and the importance of incorporating it into the program. With this mix of critical thinking and creative learning, music class can seem like it's science class. "We learn a lot about science and culture and we incorporate a lot of learning into our music. What's the point of learning if it's not fun?" Fourth grader Rachel Vance said.
The school has also made a huge commitment to technology. They use electronic white boards, chrome books and iPads in classroom assignments.
The girls cross=country team and the 7th and 8th grade girls volleyball teams have won the Wayne County Athletic League Championship.
Excelling in academics, the arts and athletics helps make Dalton Elementary and Middle School a FOX 8 Cool School.
