P.J. Ziegler spent his evening in Mentor where it was an emotional night. The Cardinals and the Brunswick Blue Devils both wore purple to show support for Riley Pearson, a Mentor senior who died after a long battle with cancer. Mentor also prayed for a second classmate who was seriously injured during a freshman game on Thursday night.
The Cardinals pulled together to stay unbeaten with a 21-14 victory.
Mentor was led by quarterback Jake Floriea who threw for three touchdowns, two of them to Eddie Daughtery. Daughtery caught 14 passes for 195 yards. He caught seven passes for 122 yards and a touchdown in the first half. Floriea finished 25-of-26 for 361.
Brunswick quarterback Steven Ficyk was 27-of-39 for 280 yards and two touchdowns.
Mentor hosts Solon next week as the Blue Devils host Twinsburg.
