ALLIANCE, Ohio- Police have arrested and charged a man after they say he shot and killed a fellow employee inside the Blue Fig Restaurant in Alliance Wednesday afternoon.

According to Alliance police, the suspect, identified as Peter Ortiz, 56, shot the victim, Akira T. Kirksey, 26, several times; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The restaurant was filled with customers at the time.

When police arrived, they say Ortiz had left the restaurant and was in the parking lot holding the handgun; he surrendered without further incident.

Ortiz was charged with one count of aggravated murder, possessing a firearm while under disability and possessing a firearm in a liquor establishment.

An initial investigation reveals that the two men argued earlier at work. Authorities say Ortiz, who is also a restaurant employee, left the building, returned later and exchanged words with the victim. He’s then accused of shooting Kirksey multiple times.

Police say after that, Ortiz walked to the bar in the restaurant, drank from a bottle of tequila, then walked back to Kirksey and shot him a final time. It’s believed a total of four shots were fired.

Ortiz is being held in the Stark County Jail without bond.
