3rd suspect in gas station shooting charged

CANTON, Ohio — The last of three men accused of taking part in a gas station robbery that ended with the death of two suspects was charged Tuesday.

The Canton Police Department announced detectives obtained warrants to charge Darrnell Newman, 19, with complicity to felonious assault, aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated murder.

Newman, of Canton, was arrested at 11 a.m. Friday on unrelated charges for receiving stolen property.

Police say surveillance video shows Newman, Ronnie Lawson, 21, and Antonio Gracia, 23, robbing the Marathon station on Ninth Street S.W. in Canton the night of Sept. 22.

Gunfire was exchanged with the clerk, and Lawson and Gracia died shortly after running from the store.

Newman got away and the clerk was recovering in the hospital.

The Detective Bureau was still investigating.
