Mentor woman charged in murder of mother

MENTOR, Ohio — A woman has been charged with one count of murder, accused of killing her mother.

Mentor police said Dawn Pierce, 56, was arraigned Monday afternoon and is being held on a $5 million bond.The victim has been identified as the suspect’s mother, Lillian Pierce, 86.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office encountered the suspect on Sunday around 9:30 a.m. when they were called to Mentor Avenue in Painesville Township to check on a woman lying on the ground behind a business.

While talking to her, the woman stated she killed someone in the City of Mentor.

Mentor police went to Tipperary Lane as a possible location and found the house unsecured.  That’s when the woman’s body was found in the kitchen.

Dawn Pierce was treated at Tri-Point Hospital for minor injuries and was then taken into custody by the Mentor Police Department.
