Do you believe?

More and more Woollybears are appearing as fall approaches.

According to legend, the size of the stripe on a Woollybear determines the harshness of the winter ahead. A lot of orange predicts a mild winter, while a little line forewarns severe conditions.

Fox 8’s Dick Goddard says the predictions made over the years with the caterpillars have been remarkably accurate.

“Caterpillars have on many times versus the computers,” he said.

He even named the huge event in downtown Vermilion after the little critter: the Woollybear Festival and Parade. This year’s event will be held Sunday, Sept. 28.

But people have been spotting Woollybears all over Northeast Ohio for weeks.
