CLEVELAND– The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the identity of a man whose body was found off Whiskey Island.

The man has been identified as Hiawatha Kenyatti Jabori Rutland, 33, of New York.

Our sister station, WHO-TV in Iowa, reports Rutland is a former Iowa State Cyclone running back.

Around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, officials said Rutland jumped off a boat with his girlfriend.  They were swimming to shore when he started to struggle. People on boats and on the beach heard him yelling for help and tried to help but were unable to save him.

His body was found Monday.
