CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s a big day at Progressive Field: a Jim Thome statue was unveiled outside Heritage Park.

Thome also announced he signed a one-day honorary contract with the Indians. Then, he will retire for good as a member of the club.

Thome is the team leader in home runs, and the statue depicts him standing in the batter’s box and directing his bat toward the mound.

The first 12,500 fans at the game will each receive a replica Thome statue.

The Indians will take on the Rangers at 7:05 p.m.
