AKRON, Ohio — They went faster than you can say superstar!
The City of Akron announced Monday afternoon that tickets for LeBron James‘ welcome home celebration sold out in just hours.
However, the City of Akron, along with The LeBron James Family Foundation and the University of Akron, are working to make a small number of additional tickets available.
We’ll continue to bring you updates on those tickets.
Tickets for the August event were made available beginning Monday morning at 10 a.m. and the immediate interest was overwhelming.
The tickets were only available through this Ticketmaster website.
When trying to access the site, the following message was given:
“An unusually large number of visitors are accessing our site. You’ve been placed in line and will be granted access to the site in the order in which you arrived.”
The big event will be held Friday, Aug. 8, at 7:15 p.m. It will take place at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field on the University of Akron campus.
Admission to the event is free, but a ticket is required.
“LeBron has always remained dedicated to Akron and his Wheels for Education kids. Our entire community is happy to celebrate with him and welcome him back to his hometown, Akron, Ohio,” Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic said in a release. “We plan to do that in a big way by celebrating those aspects of our community that LeBron himself values most.”
The release states that the event will focus on “LeBron’s positive impact on his hometown.” LeBron founded the Wheels for Education program and the I Promise campaign in the Akron area.
Gates to InfoCision Stadium will open at 6:15 p.m. Parking will be available in lots surrounding the university’s campus.
