Two hospitalized after car goes over 70-foot embankment

PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP – A couple is hospitalized after their car went over a cliff.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened in the area of Beachfront Drive at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

When crews arrived they found a 2008 PT Cruiser down a 70 foot embankment.

26-year-old Michael Brownell, who was driver of the vehicle, told officers that his girlfriend, 31-year-old Ashley Cusick, was trapped inside of the car.

The fire department was able to get Cusick out of the car and hoist her up the embankment. She was taken to TriPoint Medical Center for treatment. Brownell was also taken to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

The sheriff’s department does believe alcohol to be a factor in the crash.
