MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — A wheelchair-bound woman who claimed she was robbed at knife point admitted to police that she made the story up.

The 53-year-old woman originally told police she was in her motorized wheelchair going east on the sidewalk along Mayfield Road on Thursday. She claimed a man then came up behind her, held out a knife and made her empty her purse before making off in a getaway car.

But upon further investigation, police said they determined that the robbery did not happen. They said the woman told them she made the story up after losing her medication. She said she needed a police report to replace the prescription.

Police say the woman is being charged with filing a false police report.

“We would like to assure the residents of Mayfield Heights that our officers do their very best to provide a safe environment for them and their families,” Det. Lt. Steven Brown said in a release.
