SANDY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Police have confirmed the identity of a man found dead in rural Tuscarawas County this week.

A couple driving along Sandyville Road discovered the body Wednesday morning. Police asked the public for help identifying him.

According to a press release issued by the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office Friday, the man has been identified as William R. Lipford, 34, of Carroll County.

Police said the ID was made after Lipford’s mother reported him missing to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. Family members identified an item of clothing, physical characteristics and details about two of the man’s tattoos.

The Stark County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy on Lipford Thursday. No cause of death has yet been issued.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating what appears to be suspicious placement of the body, and the fact that some of the items may have been stolen.
