CLEVELAND — It was supposed to draw fans to Cleveland Municipal Stadium, and it did.
Wednesday marked the 40th anniversary of the infamous “10 Cent Beer Night.”
On June 4, 1974, the chance to get 10 ounces of Stroh’s beer for only 10 cents drew 25,134 fans to the game. That’s twice the season’s average!
The promotion wasn’t unique — it had been done before and would be done again.
But that night, drunk fans stormed the field and brawled with players and umpires.
