GRAND FORKS, ND — Milestone events, like high school graduation, are generally celebrated with close family members. But for military families, big events are often missed.
Sunday at Grand Forks Central High School, graduate Taylor Crafton knew her father wouldn’t be in attendance. According to WDAZ, Taylor’s father, Chris, is a member of the Air Force and had been deployed to Cuba months prior.
To keep Taylor’s father there in spirit, a family friend made a cardboard cutout of Chris, which came to prom with Taylor and on Sunday for her graduation.
Turns out, it wasn’t needed.
Chris not only surprised Taylor on stage at her graduation, but surprised his entire family.
As WDAZ reports, Chris has gone through nine deployments since Taylor was 3 months old.
