CLEVELAND– Michael Brantley hit a walk off solo homer in the tenth inning to give the Indians a hard fought 5-4 win over the Tigers, Monday night at Progressive Field. The long bomb made a winner out of reliever Scott Atchison.

The Indians got on the board in the bottom of the first, as  Drew Smyly uncorked a wild pitch, scoring Asdrubal Cabrera.

In the top of the second, Victor Martinez hit a solo homer to tie the game.

Cleveland took a 3-1 lead in the fifth thanks to a Nick Swisher RBI single and an infield RBI grounder by Jesus Aguilar. That was his first career hit. However, Detroit answered in the top of the 7th inning off Corey Kluber. Rajai Davis doubled in two runs to tie the game at three.

Jesus Aguilar hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th for a 4-3 lead but Cody Allen blew the save in the top of the ninth when J. D. Martinez took a fastball deep to center field for a solo homer and a 4-4 game.

The Indians could not push across a run in the 9th, but Brantley took care of everyone’s worries in the bottom of the tenth.

Game two of the series is Tuesday night as Trevor Bauer faces the Tigers’ Justin Verlander.
