WAYNE COUNTY, Ohio — A Wayne County Sheriff’s sergeant and an Ashland man are lucky to be alive after a crash early Saturday.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, it happened at about 2 a.m. on U.S. Route 30 east of Madison Avenue.

A deputy and a sergeant were traveling west at the time responding to a call of service. A 30-year-old Ashland man passed the deputy’s cruiser in the passing lane at a high rate of speed.

After passing that cruiser, the man moved into the driving lane, and hit the sergeant’s cruiser in the rear, causing both vehicles to go off the roadway into the median, and also causing the truck to roll over.

The driver of the truck and the sergeant were taken to Wooster Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the truck was cited for OVI, according to officials.

The crash is still under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
