CLEVELAND–The Cleveland Browns bolstered their wide receiving corps by signing veteran receiver Miles Austin on Thursday.

Austin, a 29-year-old former Dallas Cowboy, was coming off a disappointing, injury-plagued season in which he caught just 24 passes for 244 yards, and no touchdowns.

But if healthy, Austin could be a valuable part of Cleveland’s offense.

Austin has the potential to come in and become the number one receiver, should Josh Gordon have to serve a reported season-long suspension for a failed drug test.

At the very least, he provides veteran leadership with the ability to help quarterback Brian Hoyer navigate downfield.

Austin led the NFC in receiving in 2009 with 1,320 yards and is a two-time Pro Bowler. Austin boasts 34 career touchdowns in eight career seasons.
