PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- A raccoon that got into a substation caused a power outage that prompted a school closing Monday.

Classes were canceled for Riverside High School/J.R.W. in Painesville.

A message on the Riverside Local School District website said "Riverside Campus closed Monday April 28th due to a power outage."

The affected substation is owned and operated by Painesville, but overseen by FirstEnergy.

A FirstEnergy spokesperson told Fox 8 News the power went out at 5:25 a.m. and was restored around 6 a.m.

The outage also impacted residents in the area.
