ELWOOD, NEW YORK — An annual kindergarten show at a New York school has been cancelled so children can spend more time preparing for their college career.
According to News 12, the show has been put on for years at Harley Avenue Primary School. This year however, parents received letters from district officials announcing the cancellation of the program.
In one letter, school officials wrote that they are “responsible for preparing children for college and career with valuable lifelong skills.”
News 12 reports that instead of the annual show, the district will focus on helping its kindergarten students become “strong readers and problem solvers.”
One parent has set up an online petition to reinstate the show. It has more than 1,200 signatures.
