SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio– Police have one suspect in custody and are searching for a second suspect after the theft of more than 180 bronze vases from Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gregory Wade faces felony theft charges. A warrant is out for the arrest of Daniel Parr.

Akron police noticed a surge in bronze sales to local pawn shops and started investigating. It appears all of the thefts occurred at Hillside Cemetery in Springfield Township.

Detective John Lombardi said the thefts are very hard on family members. “It is pretty sad when you stoop that low to steal from a dead person. I actually had a victim of one of the graveside thefts call me in tears saying she went to visit her 20-year-old son to put flowers in and found they were missing and contacted me to see where we were with the investigation,” he told Fox 8 News Thursday evening.

The stolen vases are worth approximately $35,000. The suspects received about $3,000 for the scrap bronze. Pawn shop operators face charges of receiving stolen property.
