Thank you, Chris, for reminding the world what it means to be a good neighbor.

It’s not clear where Chris lives or exactly who Chris is, but this welcome letter — if genuine — speaks volumes about its author.

It has been shared across social media, and though its origin is unknown, the story is universal enough to touch us all.

It seems a new tenant found a letter with helpful information on his or her door.

It included important phone numbers, tips about the apartment’s quirks and offers to help with maintenance issues.

It ended with a gift.

“I know getting settled can be crazy and time consuming, so dinner is on me,” the letter said.  “I am enclosing a gift card so you can have an evening without having to worry about cooking. Happy house warming.”

Some wonder if the letter is a marketing ploy, as a restaurant gift card can be seen in plain view.

Here is the letter in its entirety as posted on Reddit.
