FREMONT, Ohio – Three people are dead and another is in the hospital after a shooting in Fremont, Sunday morning.
Police arrived at the Last Call Bar around 1:30 a.m. for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found several men with gunshot wounds.
Two men were pronounced dead at the scene, and another died at the hospital. A fourth man, Ramiro Arrola, 25, was life flighted to a Toledo hospital in critical condition.
The shooting victims are 26-year-old Elmore police officer Jose “Andy” Chavez; 28-year-old Ramiro “Ronnie” Sanchez, a bartender; and 25-year-old Daniel Ramirez, a customer at the bar.
Elmore police said Officer Chavez was employed as a full time officer since Jan. 9, 2012. In a statement, the department said, “(he) was an exemplary officer in good standing with the department.”
He leaves behind a wife and two young children, a 16-month-old and a 6-year-old.
Police said Chavez was out celebrating his belated birthday, which was March 2.
