SOUTH EUCLID, Oh – A heartfelt tribute highlights the legacy a police K-9 left behind at a local grade school.

Rex passed away two weeks ago and not only did he leave his partner and family behind, but also the children at Adrian Elementary School, according to the South Euclid Police Department’s Facebook page.

After Rex’s passing, a librarian at the school started a project to teach the children how to comfort someone who has lost a loved one.

This week, Rex’s handler Mike Fink received nearly 300 heartfelt sympathy cards from the children at the school.

The South Euclid Police Department Facebook page said it was a touching tribute to Officer Mike and his family. The page said it highlights the relationship the K-9 teams have with the school children in town.
